Imagine yourself in a car, driving down the road with the sun setting behind you, and no traffic in sight. Then imagine doing so in a Jaguar XK 140. You’ll never want to imagine yourself driving another car again.
The Jaguar XK 140 followed as an improved version of the already successful XK 120 in 1954. It used the same basic structure as its predecessor, but there were plenty of differences between the two models, namely several upgrades to the interior and the body. The Jaguar XK140 was manufactured between 1954 and 1957.
There were three different versions of the XK 140 (2+2 seating) made: the Roadster, the Drop Head Coupe, and the Fixed-Head Coupe. There were also three different body styles: the standard car, the M version, and the MC version. The Jaguar XK engine was used in the car—a popular engine that was used in Jaguar cars from 1949 until 1992. There was a choice between a 6-cyl. 3442cc/190hp engine and a 6-cyl. 3442cc/210hp engine (both of them 3.4l).
Jaguar sold the car with the principle that all knowledge and experience they had gained from their victories in the 24 Hours of Le Mans (1951-1953)—the world’s oldest active sports car race in endurance racing—had been built into the new model. In other words, a real sports car through and through.
